Viewing Cross Eyed Stereo pairs.

Warning: If you begin to feel any discomfort or a slight headache whilst practicing, take a break. There is nothing harmful in cross eyed viewing, quite the reverse, it's good eye exercise, but like any unaccustomed exercise it can cause some discomfort at first. If you can focus on a finger 12 inches (30 cm) in front of your eyes you can learn to view these images.

The simplest way to start is to merge two dots.

If you have trouble going cross eyed, put a finger half way between you and your computer screen and focus on your finger and then try to view your screen past your finger, keeping your eyes crossed.

You may need to move your finger towards or away from the screen until the dots merge.

What you will see is this.

One central clear dot with a blurred dot to either side.

Once that feels ok, merge the same two dots but with a couple of others below them.

If you merge the top two dots the merged bottom two should appear as a single dot behind and to the right of the top dot.
Once you've done that it's time to try it on a picture, but with a pair of dots to help. Merge the dots and then move your gaze to the picture keeping your eyes crossed.

And now try a larger image. Although it is possible to cross eyed view images much larger than this, none of the images on Second Sight are any larger than the one below

Lastly, try one without the dots. Once you are comfortable viewing these images there are more in our Cross Eyed Viewing Gallery
